My First Impressions of Cyprus
We arrived at Larnaca International Airport which is fairly well connect with various UK airports. From there, our waiting taxi took us east towards our hotel at the popular resort of Ayia Napa. It has a well deserved reputation as a party resort, especially during the summer months but we had booked a hotel about 2km away from the centre at Nissi Beach.
Our hotel was the Aeneas Hotel which is a very nice 5* hotel located across the road from Nissi Beach. The hotel is set is lovely gardens and the main swimming pool is the largest single pool I've ever seen at a hotel. We were staying in a standard room which was clean, modern and comfortable and some of the superior room types opened up straight into the main pool. During the day, the pool, or rather a section of it, was central to the superb entertainments team who worked all day keeping guests amused.
Breakfast at the hotel was a choice of traditional English or continental breakfasts. There was a good selection of good as well as plenty of fresh fruit which is always a welcome sight on holiday. In the evenings, we always ate away from the hotel as there were a large selection of bars, cafes and restaurants within walking distance or a short taxi ride away in the heart of Ayia Napa. There is a huge range of eating options in and around the resort of Ayia Napa. One evening, we even tried crocodile meat.
While in Ayia Napa, I also spent a couple of days scuba diving with a dive centre in the resort. The water was warm and clear but unfortunately, there isn't the same level of marine life that I was used to in Egypt. We also paid a couple of visits to the nearby Waterworld Aqua Park which is a superb day out for kids of all ages.
Another place to visit is nearby at Protaras. The Ocean Aquarium Park has over 400 species of marine life on display and outside in the gardens, there are also enclosed ponds where you can see turtles and crocodiles.
However, this Cyprus holiday [http://www.explorerdirect.explorertravel.co.uk/Destinations/Cyprus/Cyprus.htm] was primarily a beach holiday and we spent a lot of the day time hours either across the road from Aeneas Hotel at Nissi Beach or in and around the massive hotel pool. We didn't get to explore all of Cyprus during our stay. That will have to wait until we go back next time.
